When to Wear SPF?

Ahhhh, sun protection, I think this is one of THE most misunderstood topics.

How many of us thought we only needed to wear sunscreen when it’s sunny out? I mean, hey; I did. Who can blame you for thinking that, the name is literally SUN-screen!

A few things to know, your skin is your largest organ. Yes, that’s right, your skin averages 20 square feet that cover your body. The epidermis is the protective barrier that shields you. Your skin is the first layer that defends you from toxins, pollutants, UV rays, a lot more, and is the first layer that feels pain.

Did you know UVB rays change with every season? But UVA rays have the same intensity in every season? This means you need to protect yourself from UVA rays no matter if it’s snowing, or 85 outside. Crazy, I know, feels like we’ve been lied to our entire lives. That being said, it isn’t hard to incorporate sunscreen into our skincare routine. Many companies make moisturizers infused with SPF for the daytime. Skincare super simple way to include SPF into your daily routine without having to necessarily add an extra step. also with some of our cleansers for example The Shea Butter Bar by Body Desire has natural SPF qualities in the cleanser. SPF does way more than protect you from the Sun because the sun does weigh more than just burn your skin on the surface level. Using products with SPF protects your skin from age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, and reduces your risk of skin cancer.

While protecting your skin with SPF products is great and you need to be doing it, you can do more. Wearing a hat protects your face and your scalp from the sun too. It is also important to point out that shade is your friend. Trust me, I am a lover of a good tan and some sunshine, but the shade is important every once in a while to give your skin a brief break. If you read this and you're still only wearing sunscreen when it’s “Sunny” outside feel free to send us a message and we'll send you some moisturizer/SPF combo recommendations your way.
